I’m Omar Afra, a Houston-based publisher and festival producer. I co-founded Free Press Houston, Free Press Summer Fest and Day for Night, working across independent journalism, live music and visual art.
Today, I publish Testset, founded Live Index to examine the economics of live music, and founded and edit Texas Muslim, an independent publication about Islam and Muslim life in Texas. My writing explores concert pricing, industry consolidation, culture, politics and the institutions that shape public life.
The Free Press Houston Archive preserves the newspaper, artwork, photography and festival records from that earlier period. I’m also a co-founder and principal of Right Angle Home & Outdoors, a Houston construction and design-build company.
