Project Manager in Gramado, Brazil
Finished school in June 1980, age 15, and my hobby repairing/ customising bicycles & motorcycles gave me an advantage in winning a 4 yr. mechanical apprenticeship with an Irish Semi State Body in the marine industry, competing against 1,000+ applicants. Within a few years of completion I grew restless and set out from Dublin, Ireland in March 1987 and . . kind of just kept going . .
Since then I have continuous 31 yrs of international/multicultural Commercial, Industrial, Manufacturing & Energy projects living & working in Malaysia (Current), Philippines(3 yrs), Australia, India, US, UK(5 yrs), China(7 yrs), Norway, Saudi Arabia(3 yrs), UAE, Kazakhstan, Russia(10 yrs) and Spain(2 yrs). I had the good fortune to be mentored by some really insightful people and steadily progressed from a tradesman to supervision and on to senior management on large to mega projects, the last 16 yrs with a leading Multinational Engineering & Construction Firm.
Beyond work, I have also visited 41 countries (see map link below - matadornetwork), learned Russian, some Spanish, Portuguese and enough Chinese to get by, and have fun teaching English in return. Lived in Brazil for a spell, looking to move back and settle, that's the dream.
With the stories I've accumulated there is probably a book, but sadly creative writing isn't a skill I was blessed with, the rigors I'm going through over this bio is enough to discourage me. Best of all, there are many more stories still waiting to be experienced, the book will just have to wait . . . . . :-)
What I do; managing, consulting and auditing, both Office & Site based, specializing in construction completion. I'm responsible for Staffing (expat & local), Procedures Developement and implementation, Planning/Scheduling, Progress Measurement & Reporting, Contract Management, Data Mangement using custom MS Access DB's and Change & Risk Management. I have a reputation for being Organized, Proactive, Energetic and facilitating interdiscipline Communication, Coordination & Cooperation. I particularly enjoy knowledge sharing, developing training materials and the follow up presentations & interactive workshops, typically dual language using interpreters.
