Richard McPherson

I’m a writer living next to the beautiful Rio Grande Bosque in Bernalillo, New Mexico, up to my neck in fiction, nonfiction and advocacy for good causes. My first novel, Man Wanted in Cheyenne (Unleash Press 2023) was called “tender, moving and funny,” and is available from all online booksellers. My short stories have won awards, been considered for a Netflix pilot, and appeared in print and online. I love variety and stretching, so I have penned thrillers, mystery, satire, and romance, writing from the POV of men, women, and aliens. My newest satire is called “The Cannibal's World Tour” and will appear in Happenstance, an anthology from By Chance Books, available December 2026. My second novel, Sarah on Her Own - A Novel of the Gold Rush, is expected in 2027.

Before writing fiction, my consulting agency advised leading educational and cultural institutions in the US, Europe, and Asia. I taught digital communications at New York University and UCLA. My business training book, Digital Giving - How Technology is Changing Charity (2007, iUniverse), was acclaimed in the US and UK. One career highlight was advising on messaging for an online fundraiser for the ACLU produced by Tina Fey and hosted by Tom Hanks, the first such effort to receive an Emmy nomination. Other highlights included writing advocacy material for use by former President Jimmy Carter and Robert Redford, and advising the United Nations' Environment for Europe Program (Geneva) on digital messaging and civic engagement in newly-free former Soviet republics.

I serve on the board of Unleash Creatives in Columbus OH, and was a judge for Scholastic's 2026 national high school creative competition. I belong to The Author's Guild, the Historical Novel Society, South West Writers in Albuquerque, and SOMOS in Taos.
