Richard McPherson

Writer, Teacher, and Consultant in Bernalillo, New Mexico

I’m a writer living next to the beautiful Rio Grande Bosque in Bernalillo, New Mexico, up to my neck in fiction, nonfiction and advocacy for good causes. My novel, Man Wanted in Cheyenne (2023) was called “tender, moving and funny,” and is available on all online booksellers. My published short stories include thrillers like Oscar and Olivia (a former beauty queen and her orangutan companion interrupt their global children’s health tours to tackle a deadly mission for British Intelligence) and The Old Man in the Park (a retired American spy tries to stop the US slide into authoritarianism). There’s satire like Visitors from Zillia (bungling aliens stumble onto earth), and romance like Independence (forbidden passion during the Gold Rush days).

I used to teach at New York University and UCLA and led workshops in the US, Europe and Asia. I’m on the board of Unleash Creatives, a spunky indie press in Columbus OH, and a member of South West Writers in Albuquerque and SOMOS in Taos.
