A product of Virginia and the homeschooling movement. Her writing has shown up in the magazines The Fiddlehead, The Fog Horn, ThickJam, Digital Americana, Nibble, The Blue Route, Hail, Muse! etc, and The Jack, among others. She traded her health for a BFA from Randolph College, completed the MA in Prose Fiction at the University of East Anglia in 2013, and remains at the UEA to chip away at a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing with a focus on censorship.
Her first novel, The Shore, was longlisted for the Women's Prize and shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award and the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award. It is available in the UK, United States, Canada, and Australia, and will be released in translation in France, Italy, and the Netherlands. It involves an unexpected amount of sex, drugs, and wild ponies. The first chapter has been published as a short story in issue 5 of The Fog Horn.
