Professor of Structural Biology at Imperial College London. My research is devoted to understanding at the molecular level how RNA viruses like foot-and-mouth disease virus and noroviruses replicate themselves in infected cells. I am vice-chair of Science is Vital and on the board of the Campaign for Science and Engineering. I write about science and the scientific life at the Guardian and on my Reciprocal Space blog.
