I've always been drawn to the part of business that happens between the numbers and the people.
The numbers tell you where you are, what's working, and where things may be headed. But behind every spreadsheet is a person trying to build something meaningful — and carrying the responsibility that comes with it.
The illusion of leadership.
We may own businesses, lead organizations, manage teams, and control resources, but only for a time. While they're in our hands, we're responsible for what we do with them — the decisions we make, the people we affect, the relationships we build, and what we leave behind.
After decades of building, leading, advising, and working alongside businesses, I've come to believe that leadership is ultimately an act of stewardship.
We are temporary stewards of permanent values.
That belief has shaped the way I approach business and, increasingly, the way I think about this stage of my own life.
I'm retired from the corporate world these days, but I still enjoy rolling up my sleeves when a business owner or leader has a tough problem to solve.
That's who I serve.
Sometimes the numbers are telling you something. Sometimes the problem is operational. Sometimes it's about people, growth, or a difficult decision where there simply isn't an obvious answer.
That's where experience can help.
I don't bring a predetermined playbook or tell people how to run their businesses. I listen. I ask questions. I challenge assumptions. I look at what the numbers and circumstances are telling us. And together, we work toward clarity about what comes next.
No jargon. No cookie-cutter formulas. Just an experienced, independent perspective when you need one.
Because good stewardship isn't about having all the answers.
It's about making thoughtful decisions with what has been entrusted to you — and leaving it better than you found it.

And these days, it is also a pretty good description of why I continue to do this.
