We may own businesses, lead organizations, and direct resources, but authority is temporary. Eventually, the baton passes to someone else.
For a time, we are entrusted with people, relationships, opportunities, and reputations. The real measure of leadership isn't simply what we accomplish while they're in our hands—it's the condition in which we leave them when our time is over.
For much of my life, I believed I was building businesses. Looking back, I realize business was building me. Every setback, every success, and every hard decision quietly shaped the leader—and more importantly, the man—I would become.
Across more than forty years, I’ve served as a technician, founder, executive, advisor, and mentor. Each role taught me something valuable, but the greatest lessons rarely came from achievement. They came from responsibility.
Over time, I arrived at a simple truth: business has never really been about business. It has always been about people.
Leadership is not about being in charge. It is accepting responsibility for the people who have placed their trust in your care.
Leadership is Stewardship.
Having stepped back from full-time corporate life, I now focus my time and network on helping leaders think through tough decisions and connect with the right resources. Above all, I want to pass along what I've learned and make someone else's journey a little easier.
