Steven Gordon

Student, Writer, and Prison ministry practitioner in United Kingdom

My work sits at the intersection of theology, incarceration, and restoration. Through theological study, writing, and public engagement, I seek to serve the Church and those on the margins with faithfulness, clarity, and hope.

Rooted in lived experience and shaped by theological formation, I am particularly interested in how the Christian gospel speaks to transformation, dignity, and the rebuilding of lives.

Equip · Encourage · Enrich

Equip

Through teaching, preaching, writing, and theological study, I seek to help people deepen their understanding of Scripture and the Christian life.

My work holds together biblical reflection, theology, and practical application, equipping individuals, churches, and practitioners to engage faith with clarity, courage, and compassion.

Encourage

Much of my ministry focuses on those experiencing hardship, rejection, or limitation.

I seek to offer pastoral support, compassion, and a message of hope that strengthens the weary and reminds people of the dignity and purpose God has placed within them.

Enrich

Whether in churches, community spaces, or prisons, I seek to contribute to the restoration of individuals and communities.

I believe the Church participates in God’s work of renewal when it shows up with humility, presence, and hope.

My Story

My life has been shaped by adversity, but also by grace.

Having experienced exclusion from education and a significant period of incarceration, I know what it means to feel unseen and unheard. Yet through Christ, these experiences became part of a journey of transformation and calling.

Today, my work is rooted in a desire to ensure that those on the margins are not forgotten but welcomed, supported, and equipped. My story is ultimately one of restoration, hope, and purpose.

Out of this journey, I am also writing a devotional narrative reflecting on my encounter with God during my time in prison and the transformative grace that reshaped my life.

Areas of Work

Theological Formation & Prison Theology

Contributing to theological reflection and programme development that helps churches engage incarceration, justice, and reintegration faithfully. Steven works closely with the frontline mission ACT, supporting homeless and formerly incarcerated individuals. Steven also contributes to theological and training around incarceration and justice, and serves on the advisory board committee for WTC.

Prison Ministry

Supporting incarcerated men through pastoral care, discipleship, and Christ-centred encouragement.

Preaching & Teaching

Delivering church talks, Bible teaching, and theological reflection for churches, ministries, and community settings. Steven is a regular guest lecturer at Oxford Brookes University, for the Criminology Faculty, where he delivers a ‘Justice and Faith’ presentation to third-year students.

Writing & Research

Developing devotional and theological writing exploring transformation, hope, vocation, and Christian discipleship.

Relational Ministry

Walking alongside individuals through encouragement, mentoring, and pastoral presence.

Writing

I am currently working on several writing projects exploring theology, transformation, and Christian hope.

These include:

Surprised by Grace
A devotional narrative reflecting on encountering Christ in prison and the journey of transformation that followed.

Hope and the Future
An academic theological project exploring transformation, virtue, and Christian formation.

I also write reflections and essays engaging theology, lived experience, and the life of faith.

Formation & Vocation

I am currently studying theology in Oxford and discerning ordained ministry within the Church of England.

Alongside academic study, I remain actively involved in prison ministry and resettlement contexts, supporting faithful and sustainable engagement between churches, chaplaincy teams, and community organisations.

This ongoing formation shapes how I teach, write, and serve. Holding together lived experience, Scripture, and the Church’s public witness.

Connect

If my work, story, or ministry resonates with you,

I would be glad to connect.

Whether through conversation, collaboration, or ministry partnership.

I welcome the opportunity to share more about the work God has placed before me.
