Susan Sevier
Spiritual Director, Writer, and Teacher in Washington, DC
Susan Sevier, jack of many trades and master of none – that’s what my mother would have written here. And I might have agreed, until recently, as I began to see the common thread in a life of seemingly contradictory interests. And that thread that weaves its way through every corner of the cloth that is my life? Storytelling.
And so, let me introduce myself again – my name is Susan Sevier, and I am a storyteller and a story-enabler. Everything that I have done to this point in my life has been about telling a story, my story, with the hope that it had meaning for someone. And, along the way, I’ve developed some skills to help others question their own story, build it, tear it apart and build it again, and then, if they feel so called, to tell that story and inspire someone else.
Yes, I'm driven to find meaning under every rock I encounter along this weird journey we call life, and I'm driven to help others do the same. My search for the meaning in my own story has taken me many places -- to a life in music as a singer, and to passions as varied as writing and photography and teaching and preaching.
My biggest passion? I hearing other people's stories. Listening is the greatest act of hospitality there is in this chaotic world. We all need a place where we can rest awhile and look at closely at our own tale that we tell. That is why I teach, and listen, and make music, all to create such a space whenever I can.
As spiritual director, I listen. As writer and performer, I tell. And as writing coach and editor, I help someone else find their own words for their own story.
Maybe you feel a deep sense of longing to explore more about yourself or about that something bigger than your reality that you just know is out there. A spiritual companion can help with that exploration. A spiritual companion can help you follow the threads of your own story. Think of me as an editor for your journey.
