Why I Write

by Vanessa Spark

I write because some thoughts arrive quietly and refuse to leave.

Writing is where I strike a spark against experience—to see what holds, what changes, and what asks to be examined more closely. It’s how I sort and sift through the chaos, not to control it, but to understand it. On the page, contradictions are given space, and clarity is allowed to emerge in its own time.

My life moves through service, responsibility, and complexity, but most importantly under the loving grace that is given through Jesus, my Lord and Saviour. It's because of Him, I am so grateful to serve my local and greater communities through Paramedicine, humanitarian work, business ownership, marriage, and community all pull at once. Writing is where those threads come together—where I slow down, ask better questions, and listen for what remains when the noise settles.

I write under a pen name for a measure of autonomy—both personal and practical. It allows a gentle boundary between the work I do in the world and the reflections I offer here. Not everything needs to be carried under the same name, and some thoughts are better shared with a little distance and care.

This blog isn’t about certainty or polish. Some entries arrive with clarity; others are unfinished by design. Both belong. Growth, I’ve learned, comes from attention, honesty, and the willingness to stay present even when answers take time.

Those who know me understand me. Those who don’t question my sanity.

I’m at ease with both.
