Professor Yu Xiong contributes to the fields of business analytics, technology integration, and sustainable supply chain management through academic research, business ventures, and policy advising. According to Elsevier SciVal, Professor Xiong ranks first among the UK's top 500 authors for citations (excluding self-citations) in Supply Chain, Closed Loop, and Remanufacturing research between 2014 and 2023.

His research explores relationships between emerging technologies and climate change, with publications in journals including Nature Communications, Technovation, and Transportation Research Part E. The paper "Policy assessments for the carbon emission flows and sustainability of Bitcoin blockchain operation in China" in Nature Communications was recognized among Nature's top 25 social science papers globally, with an Altmetric score of 1936.

Professor Xiong has applied business analytics expertise through several companies with a combined economic impact of £120 million. As co-founder and Management Director of OxValue.AI, a collaboration with Oxford University, he helped develop AI systems for analyzing investment data and valuing technology companies and patents. This venture, recognized as Oxford University's only social science spinout in a decade, received the Falling Walls Scientific Breakthrough Award in 2021, achieved a £20 million valuation, and attracted £2 million investment for a 10% stake.

With Keath.AI, where Professor Xiong serves as co-founder and Chair alongside the University of Surrey, the focus is on applying generative AI to educational data analysis. The company has secured £4 million in investments and reached a £40 million valuation in 2024. The platform is currently used by 10 UK universities and global education companies including D2L and BPP, and has received recognition through the Times Higher Education Digital University Award, PIEoneer Awards, and selection for Microsoft Founders' Hub.

As co-founder and Chief Scientist of Endless Genesis Cloud, launched at COP29 in 2024, Professor Xiong helped develop a blockchain platform addressing carbon accountability, data integrity, and traceability. This venture has attracted £5 million in investment, achieved a £50 million valuation, and serves over 10,000 users globally.

In policy development, Professor Xiong chairs the Advisory Board for the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Metaverse and Web 3.0, producing annual reports and white papers. His additional roles include Fellow at Cambridge University Institute for Sustainability Leadership (2016-2023), Senior Fellow at Oxford University's Technology and Management Centre for Development (2023-present), President of the Chinese Economic Association Europe/UK (2020-2021), and Vice President of the International Association of Operations and Supply Chain Management (2020-present).

Professor Xiong carried the London Olympic Torch in 2012 and received the Global Gandhi Award at the UK Parliament, recognizing contributions to global research, innovation, and sustainable development.
