Hiya!

My career has taken a funny path. Being told policing was "too competitive" and a love of horses - plus a stroke of luck, got me a job as a teen, in agricultural research. I went on to do my B.Sc. (Agr.).

I then completed a Master's in poultry nutrition (Physical and Pathological Analysis of Trace Mineral Deficiencies in Broilers to 18 Days of Age) and when I graduated, a passion for writing, knowledge of poultry and knowing the right people got me a job in communications with Chicken Farmers of Ontario. There, I received on-the-job training in public relations.

I worked in PR in the Canadian beef industry after that, but the poultry industry drew me back and after 5 years with the Ontario Cattlemen's Association, I moved to Hybrid Turkeys. That job was marketing and involved ad campaigns, Website coordination, corporate branding, sales and service support.

Then, in January of 2013, I got my "dream job" - Editor of Canadian Poultry magazine with Annex Business Media. After doing that for a year, it was time to expand horizons as I accepted a broader role as Digital Editor - AgAnnex (working across ag instead of just within poultry) while also serving as Associate Editor of Top Crop Manager magazine (Eastern edition).

Fast forward and in 2019, an opportunity brought me to a new realm - human health and the charitable sector, with the Huntington Society of Canada.

In terms of "other" organizations I'm affiliated with, I am currently on the board of directors of the Canadian Haflinger Association. I am the former Vice-President of the Ontario Institute of Agrologists (still a member) and served on the Board for 4 years. In the Spring of 2012 I was elected to the Board of Farm & Food Care (Ontario) for a one-year term and I'm also a former Director for the Eastern Canadian Farm Writers' Federation. I volunteer with the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum as much as possible.

Hobbies include a lot of sports....baseball being number one. My better half, Manuel, is a foot doctor. We ride, ski, cycle, and play volleyball, tennis and badminton regularly. Our pets include a Shetland/Welsh pony named Clarabelle, two Haflinger mares named Donna and Betz, a German Shepherd named Atlas, two White-Capped Pionus parrots named Rooney and Quaia and a Bearded Dragon named Dracco.

I read a lot - but there's always time to cheer on my fave MLB team, the Detroit Tigers!!
