Warren Adamsis a South African born Producer, Writer, Director, Choreographer, Entrepreneur and Professor living in New York City..
In 1994, after Nelson Mandela became President of South Africa, Adams was selected as the first Mandela/Sainsbury scholar to complete his studies in London England. After a successful career in the UK, Europe and Australia, he moved to New York City in 1998.
He recently Directed the World Premiere of the new Off Broadway Play SUPERHERO and Choreographed Sarah Ruhl’s critically acclaimed LETTERS FROM MAXat the Signature Theatre, and Kate Douglas’s THE APIARY (A NY TIMES Critics Pick) at Second Stage in New York City.
He produced the Feature Film, a political Thriller entitled 88, which had its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival and was recently acquired by Samuel Goldwyn Pictures currently streaming on Apple TV.
He is the Choreographer of the Bebe Winans Broadway bound musical BORN FOR THIS and Writer/Director of the new musical RACE AGAINST TIME based on newly found evidence related to the Lindbergh case which was held in former NJ Governor Harold Hoffman’s house for over fifty years.
Past Projects include: MOTOWN THE MUSICAL (Broadway, US Tours, West End) Directed the film AFRICA STRAIGHT UP, and choreographed the Off-Broadway plays ALL THE NATALIE PORTMANS, HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE, OROONOKO AND RUINED.
Other notable credits include the opera MAGDALENA in Paris at the Theatre Du Chatelet, Disney’s TOY STORY THE MUSICAL and Nora Ephron’s last film JULIE AND JULIA.
In 2019 he was appointed to the Tony Nominating Committee. Other notable awards include the Tony Award for HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH (Co-Producer). He won the NAACP and the Fred Astaire Award's for his choreographic work on Motown. He was selected as the first MANDELA SAINSBURY SCHOLAR (South Africa to London) and the first RUDOLF NUREYEV AWARD winner in Europe.
His former Production Company WalkRunFly co-produced HEDWIG and OF MICE AND MEN on Broadway.
He is the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of the Black Theatre Coalition.
Adams has served as an Adjunct Professor at both Princeton University and NYU in the drama departments.
He co-founded VisaPaq with Sharona D'Ornella's, a portfolio company that has successfully obtained over 300 working visas for international immigrant artists wanting to work in the USA.
