Alasdair Babber Shah has a keen interest in wildlife conservation and works as a reservations assistant at The Far Horizons, a company that offers expert destination management for tailor-made and small group tours in Uganda and Rwanda. In this role, Alasdair is responsible for booking services such as flights, accommodations, park entry, cars and boats for confirmed safaris and undertaking one- and three-month checks.

Alasdair also has experience working as a deckhand on a yacht in Portugal, where he was required to assist in the preparation of the boat (in terms of loading supplies, for example), manage the onboard bar, and sell and promote cruise party tickets. His excellent interpersonal skills and capacity to stay focused and calm under pressure while at sea stood him in good stead during his time aboard.

A former student of the independent boarding and day school Culford School in Suffolk, Alasdair Shah attended this educational establishment from 2015 to 2020. The school is set in 480 acres of parkland with an 18th century mansion at its centre. Prior to this, Alasdair attended the preparatory school Pembroke House School in Kenya. While there he represented his school in field hockey and, in his final year, climbed Africa’s second-highest mountain, Mount Kenya. This mountain is an extinct volcano and is surrounded by the Mount Kenya National Park, which was established in 1949 and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

In his free time, Alasdair loves to scuba dive, play the drums and play tennis, and he is a keen photographer whose work can be viewed on his Instagram page.
