Alex Pergament

Alex is a private law school tutor in New York City, specializing in 1L core subjects: Contracts, Torts, Civil Procedure, Criminal Law.

Alex's first year of law school was a revelation into a new way of thinking. It was exciting and deep and helped him make sense of so much that had been obscure! After graduating from George Washington University Law School with High Honors, Order of the Coif, and as a Law Review Editor, Alex served as a law clerk at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. This all was great.

But a year into his legal carear at a top litigation firm in New York City, he had lost most of the fascination with law that had made 1L year so meaningful. While working and looking for another firm job, he stumbled across his 1L Contracts book, and, somewhere between Leonard v. PepsiCo. and The Carbolic Smokeball Case, found his legal mojo again!

He soon quit his firm job and, capitalizing on four years as a Kaplan tutor, founded LawSchoolMojo Tutoring to share his excitement and help initiate law students into legal thought.

In my experience, the people who are at the top of the class, especially 1L year, share the following four characteristics: dedication, ability to draw a kernal of insight from a mass of raw information, and ability to organize information. I cannot help with the first, sorry! The second and third are the building blocks of "thinking like a lawyer," and these are what we will focus on.
