Alexandra The Great 48
Burlesque Star in Terrell, TX
Alexandra The Great 48 is an icon in the burlesque entertainment sphere whose show business career extended from the late 1950s to the early 1970s. Gaining her start in theater under the capable mentorship of Rose La Rose, Alexandra The Great 48 took her stage name from a combination of a popular cinematic feature and her show-stopping 48-25-42 measurements.
Coming into her own as a headline performer accompanied by a band and showgirls, the burlesque legend embodied star power while sharing the limelight with colleagues who became her greatest friends. In an engagement in Hawaii, she famously stopped traffic in downtown Honolulu, attracting a crowd of thousands. She subsequently had the opportunity to make her theatrical mark in a number of top venues throughout Australia.
Inducted into the Burlesque Hall of Fame, Alexandra The Great 48 continued on a creative arc after her theatrical career ended, and was a beautician with Universal Studios in the 1980s. With a profound dislike of "ticking clocks” and a passion for looking her youthful best, she also launched a successful beauty product line.
