A Board-certified Pediatrician and Neonatologist, Dr. Allen Cherer has dedicated his career to caring for sick newborns and supporting their families. For nearly three decades, he has served in Level III newborn intensive care units (NICUs) in Georgia, California, and North Carolina.

Following his Pediatrics training at the University of Louisville's Kosair Children's Hospital, Dr. Allen Cherer was commissioned in the USAF Medical Corps and served as Chief of Pediatrics at USAF Regional Hospital Minot (North Dakota). While there, he was particularly interested in improving the management of children with chronic illnesses, such as asthma and diabetes.

Following military service, Dr. Allen Cherer completed a Neonatal-Perinatal fellowship in the Joint Program of Neonatology at Harvard Medical School. His primary clinical interests included intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) in the preterm infant and the long term follow-up of high risk newborns.

Dr. Allen Cherer coupled the two in his fellowship research project and in a published manuscript proposing a management protocol for intraventricular hemorrhage.

Dr. Allen Cherer has also participated in the clinical teaching programs of the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and the Cabarrus (North Carolina) Family Medicine Residency Program. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the Section on Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and the North Carolina Pediatric Society.
