Anthony Matthews
After completing a Bachelors in Social Science (BSS) and Law degree (LLB) at Rhodes University, South Africa, like quite a few South Africans, I started my career in the banking sector in London. I worked for RBS, JPMorgan Chase and Mitsubishi Securities UJF in their legal and compliance teams.
When I returned to South Africa I was employed by Investec as the Group Money Laundering Reporting Officer. After working for Investec for a few years I was asked by First Rand Bank to head up their Sanctions department.
Despite enjoying much of my banking career, I knew ultimately that I wanted to start my own business. I decided to resign from banking and set up Shiny Rock Commodities; a subsidiary of the Shiny Rock Group, brokering in physical commodities around the world. We specialize in diamonds and other gems, a variety of metals, sugar and other food products.
Having established a good consistent supply of quality diamonds, myself, Craig Denbury and Gus Van Der Spek decided to launch Black Key Diamonds; an online, all in one diamond exchange. The business prides itself on personal attention, fantastic pricing, quality diamonds and related products.
