Student, Teacher, and Mother in Johannesburg, Brixton
I am a Pedagogical practitioner, majoring in English and Physical Education. Growing up, I was labelled as a slow learner. The labelling grew in me. Until I changed a school and met new teachers. Their patience towards me, their way of understanding and being passionate changed my life for the better. They made me realise that all I needed was patience, love and understanding. Due to this experience, I developed an interest in becoming a teacher so I can help students like me to have a better vision about themselves. One does not just become a teacher, you need to have patience, be kind, have empathy and have good communication skills. my favourite Theorist in Education is Paulo Freire, who proposed the theory of critical pedagogy as a way to free the oppressed from the oppressor. Teachers act as the content authority are seen as the oppressors because they do not allow students to think for themselves, to solve problems on their own and in overall to become critical thinkers. Therefore, the role of a teacher is that of a facilitator.
As the 21st century teacher, I have the skills and ability to incorporate the four Cs (Collaboration, Communication, Critical thinking and Creativity) in my teaching. I am passionate about my profession but most importantly, about my students.
