A real estate developer with over 40 years of experience, Bernard P. Hagan enlisted in the U.S. Army upon graduating from St. Ignatius High School in 1945. After serving as a member of the 11th Airborne Division, Bernard Hagan returned home to attend the University of San Francisco and begin a career in real estate.

A past president of the Building Industry Association's West Bay Division, Mr. Hagan began his career with Westlake Realtors and later became a partner with Hagan and Doherty Real Estate. Several years later, he launched Hagan Construction and Development, which managed apartment and condominium builds throughout the Bay Area for over 40 years. In 1982, he was named Builder of the Year by the National Housing Conference.

In addition to his business pursuits, Bernard P. Hagan was involved in numerous philanthropic and political endeavors during his career. A former co-chairman for the March of Dimes Gourmet Gala, he also served as a member of the World Affairs Council of Northern California. In 1984, he hosted members of the Massachusetts delegation such as John Kerry and Teddy Kennedy at his home prior to the Democratic National Convention.
