When I was only five years old, I scribbled symbols in the bare earth of my grandparents backyard with a stick because I wanted to write something... anything. Since then, I've learned how to use better media tools!
I guess I've always wanted to be a writer even before I knew how to write. Three years ago, I retired from a career with the State of Texas and took up writing full time, finally reaching a lifelong goal.
I was born and raised in East Texas in a small town where a certain list of surnames meant success was inevitable. My name was not on that list. I left home at the age of 19 to see the world, traveled around Dixie, hoping to be sent to Europe during my stint in the US Navy, but eventually gave up and got out, hoping to be an Environmental Scientist. That hope, too, was dashed when I returned home and found that my degree plan matched nothing in the local university's curriculum. I ended up with a degree in Teaching with a life-long Secondary Teaching certificate, hoping to be a teacher. Once again, hopes were lost when I discovered that I was not "Teacher" material. (It wasn't the kids, it was their parents!)
So eventually I ended with a career in public service with the Texas Department of Criminal justice working with incarcerated felons. They reminded me of my former students without the stigma of parents attached to them.
I started writing part time while still working full time and progress was slow. Over the course of several years, I wrote several books and then made another unfortunate discovery: To be published, you needed an agent; to get an agent, you needed to be published. D'oh! So my work sat on the proverbial shelf, lay in the proverbial drawer and eventually hide inside floppy discs as the world progressed.
Eventually, Darwin's Evolution of the Species caught up with the Publishing Industry and Amazon DTP was born. Since then, I have been a somewhat happy, occasionally depressed, self-published author.
I write epic Fantasy, horror and historical romance. I currently have over thirty novels published on Amazon.com and Smashwords. Many of them are also available in paperback format from Createspace and Amazon.
I am living my ultimate dream, though not a NY Times Bestseller yet, I am a full time writer, publisher, marketer combination and learning new things everyday.
