Brightstar Ohlson is a strategist and the founder of Bright Research Group, a cutting edge consultancy that helps clients to design, test and refine tri-sector innovations in community health. Brightstar helps clients access the voice and experience of the consumer. By working with Brightstar, clients develop a practice of looking at their services from a consumer perspective and become more competent at using consumer data to drive decision-making and service design. Brightstar builds bridges across public systems, non-profits and philanthropy, as well as the private sector and their target consumers and communities. She chooses to work with clients who are focused on inverting and transforming their relationships with the communities they serve. Clients who benefit from Brightstar's strategic thought partnership include those who are actively co-producing services with consumers, challenging the status quo in terms of social sector service delivery, and devising innovative and upstream solutions to longstanding societal problems. Brightstar is known for her analytical mind, ability to speak across sectors, and strategic insight.

Brightstar led the design of the outreach and enrollment assistance program for Covered California, which reached almost a million consumers in its first year. In Alameda County, she is helping a school-district-based health insurance enrollment initiative gain insight on the families they reached through interviews, surveys and analysis of outcome data. She brings diverse expertise in the areas of public health, mental health, Affordable Care Act reform, social determinants of health, co-production, public safety, and health equity.

Brightstar lives in Oakland, CA. She spends her time mothering her three children, cooking for loved ones, and running half marathons.
