Brittney Grimes

Brittney is a writer, published author, public speaker and poet. She has been writing poetry since she was six years old. At the age of eight, she appeared on Showtime at the Apollo at the World Famous Apollo Theater, where she recited her poem "Children of the World". She won first place in the children's category. At twelve years old, Brittney competed and won the 2002 McDonald’s Gospelfest, first ever Poetry Category. In October 2006, Brittney was featured in Ebony Magazine in the article "Terrific Teens: Young Achievers showcase Exceptional Talent ". When she was seventeen years old, she won the Avon "Make Your Mark" Competition for her writing and appeared in Seventeen Magazine. She has appeared on Nickelodeon NickNews, ABC, NBC, Good Morning America and CNN Person of the Day. She has been in the New York Times, Newsday, Daily News, New York Times Magazine and Time Magazine. She has published four children books: "Poetry for a Child By a Child" (1998), "Poetry for a Child by a Child, Workbook" (2000), "Ice Cream Dreams" (2002), and "The True Glory of the Christmas Story" (2004). She has received numerous awards for her poetry, including the National Organization for Women (NOW) “Young Women of Achievement” Award and the Zora Neale Hurston Literary Award for Literature. She has written over 500 poems. She graduated from Hofstra University in May 2011 with her B.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing. She is a member of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society.
