CALLOUS

When we started pre-production on Callous in January of 2009, our intention was to shoot a 40 page short film over the span of the summer and complete post-production in the fall. We didn’t know it at the time, but this film had a very different course ahead of it. The budget was based on what our small crew could afford, essentially, from their weekly paychecks. Because the lack of funds, we couldn’t provide compensation to the cast or crew, which forced us to schedule all filming to be done on the weekends.

In June, after two months of successful principal photography, the decision was reached to go with an alternate draft of the Callous script, the feature length version. The most noteworthy aspect from the making of this film is the sacrifice by everyone involved. Weekend after weekend for fourteen months, the cast and crew worked vigilantly. Not driven by money but passion. The number of crew members on any given shooting day averaged around three to four, which often led to peculiar but regular sightings of the actors filling in as the boom operator. When difficulties arose, time and time again everyone involved persevered and did so as a team.

After fourteen months of principal photography, Callous was wrapped thanks to the dedication of the crew and the amazingly talented cast. To everyone involved, thank you.

Sincerely,

Graystreet Productions
