Carmen María Montiel

A television journalist and philanthropist in Houston, Texas, Carmen María Montiel has worked with a wide range of organizations over the course of her career. Her experience in the journalism industry includes anchoring, writing, reporting, and producing Spanish-language programs in America and Venezuela. In her work with Telemundo-Houston, Carmen María Montiel researched and delivered her own pieces daily and created a weekly segment that discussed health-related issues. She also covered the 1992 National Republican Convention for the network. In Venezuela, she hosted Complicidades, a daytime magazine show on the Venevision network that featured celebrity interviews, special-interest stories, and other entertainment pieces.

Ms. Montiel also uses her communication and interpersonal skills on behalf of numerous charitable organizations. Most recently, she chaired various events held by the Latino Learning Center, and has served as president of the center’s John Globerg Patronato for Senior Housing since 2010. She has held board member positions with UNICEF, the Institute of Hispanic Culture, and Virtuosi of Houston.

In recognition of her philanthropy, Ms. Montiel has earned accolades from the Houston Area Women’s Center and the Consulate General of Mexico. Her journalistic work has been recognized with such honors as a Tommy Award for Best Public Affairs Production, given by her alma mater, East Tennessee State University.
