Writer, Mother, and Volunteer in Marlboro, New York
My name is Carrie Jones Ross and I have been an Ulster County journalist for over a decade. I have been a mother since I was 17 years old, and have three amazing kids: Alex 24, Madeleine 16, and Cooper 12. I do not believe in the Oxford comma, but I am learning to respect those who do. I am a frequent community volunteer; church vestry board member as well as a board member of Caring Hands Soup Kitchen, and recent graduate of the Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress Fellows Fellowship leadership incubation program. I am pleased to add that I am on the Dean’s List as well. I also teach Sunday school, sing in the church choir.
As a journalist, I write everything ranging from human-interest stories, feature stories, municipal government, editorials, health columns, fitness columns, school government, hard news and a regular, “Penthouse-style” Question & Answer column. Some recurring themes I seem to revisit include regional food insecurity, agriculture, health & fitness, ethnic issues and spotlights on strong women. I have written for daily newspapers, weekly periodicals, and monthly magazines. I hold our company’s record for all-time most-clicked-on article, and recently one of my articles on MDMA trended on Yahoo news.
Here’s a bit about me: Upbeat. Sunny. Snark-filled. Strong, Bright. Positive, fun, playful, deep, gritty, ridiculous, dynamic, physical, energetic, motivated, mercurial, engaged, impassioned and candid.
