A self-proclaimed foodie and adventurer, Chantal Royer pursues the hobbies of cooking and traveling. During a visit to Morocco, she toured Melilla and Ceuta, two towns under Spanish rule, as well as the cities of Rabat and Fez. Chantal Royer shopped at ancient alleyway stores in Casablanca and visited markets and local nomadic tribes as she spent time driving and hiking in the country's desert and mountainous regions. She also visited the Spanish Canary Islands and Lanzarote, an island approximately 125 kilometers from Morocco, on the same trip.

While touring Italy and the United States, Chantal Royer developed a strong interest in sampling and cooking traditional Italian food. She enjoys cooking according to old traditions, such as using fine, imported olive oils in pastas instead of cream. Ms. Royer often prepares a wide variety of pasta dishes for her friends and family, including pasta with pesto, eggplant, and seafood. Along with her interest in Italian cooking, she enjoys learning about the various ways in which Italian traditions have shaped popular cuisine in the United States.

Chantal Royer also maintains a strong affinity for Greek and Greek-American food. During her travels throughout Greece and the United States, she sampled some of the finest Greek cuisine available, some of which can be found in traditional restaurants in Chicago's Greektown.
