Chris Cattaneo
Teacher and Trainer in Italy
I help teachers to grow their professional teaching skills and teach English.
Based in the north of Italy, I mainly help people to grow and develop their English skills. The lovely people I teach may still be at school, or they may be working and need English for their day to day work or for a promotion on the horizon. A lot of people want lessons to keep up their already high level of their English or to build their confidence.
When I'm training teachers, I usually work as a MCT (Main Course Tutor) or ACT (Assistant Course Tutor) on a Cambridge CELTA course. Other Teacher Training work I do is usually on an ad-hoc basis. I also inform teachers about relevant events and jobs on a private Facebook page.
Another facet to my work is examining. I am a speaking examiner for levels from pre-A1 right up to C2. I also coordinate teams of speaking examiners locally, regionally and nationally.
A free time activity I love centres around my garden: growing plants, shrubs and trees. While this does tend to involve a lot of physical work - from digging, pruning, planting and clearing - I do find it complements my work very well.
One of my favourite quotes:
To such an extent does nature delight and abound in variety that among her trees there is not one plant to be found which is exactly like another; and not only among the plants, but among the boughs, the leaves and the fruits, you will not find one which is exactly similar to another. (Leonardo da Vinci)
