Hi, my name is David Singh. I am currently a senior at Academy at the Lakes, where I've been a student for the past six years. I was a member of the Student Ambassador Program in middle school, but stepped away from the program when I stated high school to focus on my classes and take advantage of some other clubs. I'm excited to be a member of the program again for my final year of high school!
At Academy, I participate in the Junior State of America (Debate Club), National Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and I compete in Science Olympiad where I am ranked first in the region for my bridge building structures. I am also the captain of the Varsity Golf Team.
I chose Academy at the Lakes because I felt welcomed from the day I came for my visitation. I made friends right away, and these are the friends I've had since 6th grade.
My favorite tradition at Academy are the Student Retreats at the beginning of the school year. During the retreats, students bond and form friendships. New students and faculty learn about Academy’s culture; returning students and faculty are renewed by it. I love the retreats not only because we get a few days away from classes, but because we grow even closer as a community.
Academy has helped me try new things, to step out of my comfort zone, and to take advantage of the opportunities offered at Academy. I love to play the piano; however, when I joined Academy in 6th grade, I learned that all 5th and 6th graders participate in either Band or Strings. I decided to join the Band and learned to play the trumpet. I continued to play the trumpet through my junior year. At the end of my junior year, I realized I hadn't participated in an All School Musical, which prompted me to join the Chorus for my senior year.
After getting acclimated to Academy as a new 6th grader, I wanted to take advantage of the Athletic Department's no-cut policy and I joined the Varsity Golf Team. I'm happy to have had the courage to compete and learn along with students that were much older than me. I am now Captain of the Varsity Golf Team.
In addition to athletics, I've been involved in student government since Middle School. In 7th grade I ran for student council and was elected the 7th grade representative, and a year later, I was elected secretary of my 8th grade class. Today, I am one of two senior class representatives.
As you can see, Academy at the Lakes has impacted me in so many positive ways. I look forward to sharing my Academy experiences with you.
