David Tunkl

With an intensive focus on early to mid 20th century art, David Tunkl Fine Art of Los Angeles presents an exquisite collection of masterworks and prints to its clientele. Established by its namesake in 1993, David Tunkl Fine Art primarily sells major works from the great art movements of the last century, including Dada, surrealism, cubism, pop art & expressionism. Mr. Tunkl collects and sells an extensive selection of works by artists that include Paul Klee, Otto Dix, Andy Warhol and Georgia O'Keeffe. Over a period of almost two decades, David Tunkl Fine Art sold nearly five dozen masterworks, from Salvador Dalí's La Femme Poisson to Roy Lichtenstein's Bratatat.

In addition to his Los Angeles location, David Tunkl recently established a presence in San Francisco, California. Always focused on personal client service and being the best of the best, Mr. Tunkl's goal is to better serve his Northern California clients and to further engage in San Francisco's lively art scene, where private dealership and fine artwork are appreciated.

David Tunkl Fine Art built its reputation from Mr. Tunkl's broad experience in collecting and selling 20th century artwork. Mr. Tunkl started his art career in 1974, shortly after viewing Francisco Goya's 19th century masterpiece, The Third of May 1808. Starting by dealing limited edition prints to young professionals, Mr. Tunkl fully immersed himself in the art world when he moved to Zurich, Switzerland, in 1985. David Tunkl became a private dealer, spending seven years in Europe offering high end art to a select clientele;he sold works by artists ranging from Constantin Brâncusi to Jackson Pollock. Tunkl discovered the benefits of selling privately; by being independent from a retail gallery, he can remain in the background and acquire works from curators or collectors who are not interested in working in the public eye.

This principle of selling in the background is the basis of David Tunkl Fine Art's philosophy. Mr. Tunkl possesses a deep understanding and intimate connection with the art world through its dealers, museums, collectors and heirs. Observing the actions of these key components in the art business, Mr. Tunkl is able to acquire some of the finer works of the 20th century for his diverse clientele.
