Dayah Johal, studying Commerce with the University of British Columbia (UBC)’s Sauder School of Business, aspires to pursue a career where she may put her working knowledge of 7 languages, consisting of English French, Spanish, Punjabi, Hindi, Mandarin and Japanese, to use. Her every initiative conveys her core values, steadfastly putting forth Effort, demonstrating Empathy and carrying on the spirit of Entrepreneurship.

Dayah’s passion to pursue entrepreneurship was awakened by Shad Valley at McMasters University, where she completed the program as Valedictorian. There, students designed products to improve the lives of disabled children, inspiring her to develop her business acumen further. Dayah then interned at BCTIA, participated in the PNE Youth Council where she collaboratively created a marketing campaign for pilot year of SPF, and won the TiE Young Entrepreneurs (TYE) Global business plan competition. Of the $25,000 winnings, her team donated $5000 to BC Children’s Hospital. Dayah is currently an active member of the Alumni committee, sharing her experience with students from Vancouver, all the way to Dallas. Her passion for enhancing the lives of others in her community, strong sense of social responsibility propelled her to enter UBC’s with scholarships amounting to over $4500.

Since pursuing her university degree, Dayah has remained an active participant in school life, serving as Corporate Relations Manager of UBC’s eProjects entrepreneurship club, and volunteering her energy to initiatives such as the J.D.C. West Business Competition, Tandem UBC language program in Mandarin and French. She was also selected to attend the UBC Top 40 Under 40 Networking Breakfast and participated in the U.B.C. International Business Club Case Competition. This year, Dayah chaired UBC Business Week, a week long business fair involving 10,000+ students, 50 clubs, and multiple world-class corporate sponsors, while working for the eHealth Strategy office Field Outreach Representative, and Match Marketing Group as a Brand Ambassador. Most recently, she is working on launching the Canadian chapter of the International Youth Council (IYC) Canada as Operations Officer, promoting environmental awareness through the Down to the Last Straw initiative, and helping implement the Young Entrepreneurship Leadership Launchpad course (YELL) in the Lower Mainland curriculum.
