Daylina Miller

New Port Richey, Fla.

Daylina is a multimedia journalist with a passion for science and geek news and a penchant for all things sci-fi and horror. Daylina strives to interpret and explain medical and scientific advance in layman terms, as well as to have fun with science fiction.

Daylina earned her bachelors degree in mass communications at the University of South Florida, where she frequently reported on medical research and science fiction symposiums for USF News. She is completing her masters in new media journalism at Full Sail University, where she first began her website covering geek news and conventions around the Tampa Bay.

In her spare time, Daylina freelances for Doctor Fantastiques Show of Wonders steampunk magazine, where she covers the Central Florida steampunk community. She also regularly attends local science fiction, horror, gaming and anime conventions.

Daylina is often described by friends, family and members of the communities she covers as the ultimate “modern reporter.” Don’t mistake her pink hair and combat boots for silliness and complacency- behind her strange look is sheer dedication to the art and craft of journalism. For her, journalism is as much of a lifestyle as tattoos and hair dye is.

While Daylina loves her job as a staff reporter for The Suncoast News, a bi-weekly newspaper covering life in West Pasco County, Fla., her dream is to work for io9, a Gawker Media publication that covers science, science fiction and the future.
