As an educator, I am inspired by the latest innovative and technological findings. I started teaching 15 years ago. Today we have the resources of teaching students at so many levels and so many ways. I believe in using effective innovative practices and research based strategies that focus on the individual growth mindset, and skills for life success. Academia is important but not on its’ own. People can be smart in other ways. Awareness of this is of utmost importance. The student of today needs skills for the unknown. The goal of education to create students who are critically aware, question and analyze all information presented to them.
We as educators are responsible for instilling the love of learning in their students and be role models. My educational experiences, and graduate coursework has given me a better understanding of where our students are in education and where they are going after they graduate from high school. The different cultures, attitudes and learning styles of both teachers and students have helped me grow and expand my understanding of people. My own self-research on Social and Emotional Learning and the educational pioneers challenging the current system has also expanded my thought process on how I see education.
The reality of our failing education system and the new educational thinking and practices is what motivates me and grows my passion for educating our youth appropriately. The image of the classroom is changing and school leaders are responsible for promoting a positive school culture and ensure teachers are up to date with the most current and effective instructional methods to help students reach their full potential academically and in life.
