Jorge Carvalho

Sydney

Hi,

I've worked in Lisbon for 2 years, in Brussels for 3 years + 3 months, and I live in Sydney since 2010

After a couple of years doing C#, when I moved to Belgium in 2007 I sarted a part time gig in SharePoint, splitting the rest of the time between some C++, some Mono, and other small stuff. A few months later I started my first full time client on a SharePoint project and I've worked exclusively with SharePoint ever since.

My background is one of a consultant/developer. That's why when I moved to Australia I was very pleased to work in a small consulting company that won the prize of global MS partner of the year for application development. A small company with 10+ MVPs in diverse areas and a great knowledge sharing culture.

Now I decided to abandon the consulting world and do some internal product development in an end-client environment. A new set of challenges, but a very rewarding experience.

I'm also a ScrumBan Practitioner. Promoting change in both work culture and procedures is what I find most challenging about my new job. This time is not about the consultant talking the talk, it's more about the internal dude trying to walk it. It's less about the best practices and more about reaching a compromise with the workplace realities.

Another thing about me that has been quietly sleeping in the back seat these past few years is my passion for Political Philosophy and Social Theory. I have written nothing on this for ages, but my DemocracyDrops alias is always there to remind me that there is a world outside my bubble to which I have a responsiblity to give my contribution. As do you.

The last topic you will find either on my poorly kept blog or more often on my tweeter feed is music. Every now and then there are some excited shouts about new bands, new albums or just about any new music that gets to pass my snob musical preferences.

See you around
