I am actively engaged in social media within the financial planning community. I strive to bring financial planning to the next generation and enjoy assisting financial planners that do so successfully.
An academic at heart, research and writing are activities I enjoy. I hope to use that to further the area of financial therapy and the financial planning profession. I find that there is a gap between academics and practitioners and hope to help fill that void in the future by working closely with financial planning practitioners. It is also my opinion that there is much more to financial planning than investments and the returns generated.
I believe there is too much emphasis placed on overall portfolio performance and whether or not it "beat the market". Instead, the focus on returns (in my opinion) should be on each individual's expected return that would allow them to satisfy their own particular goals, not just trying to blindly "beat the market". That said, I'm passionate about holistic financial (and life) planning.
Currently, I also serve as a Director at Large for the Financial Planning Association's (FPA) Greater Kansas City Chapter as well as the Social Media Coordinator for the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) Genesis group.
Family time is important to me. In my free time you’ll find me spending it with my wife and two dogs engaged in outdoor activities such as hiking and backpacking. Other than that, I’m generally found playing ice hockey.
