Derek Freiman was not always a gardener!!
When I was younger, living on the East coast, my Mom had a garden that I hated to work in. We grew a few tomatoes, lettuce, and radishes and squash. That was about it. It was in a small plot of land near the back of our house. It was a pain in the neck to weed and I remember telling Mom I did not want to work in the garden. I'd rather be out riding my bike or playing baseball with friends.
Funny how life works though!
Here I am, operating Derek Freiman Gardening and really loving it. But let's give you a little recap of my life.
I was born in 1965 in Richmond, VA. When I was young, I wated to be a baseball player.
My family moved out West when I was a teenager, so I wound up taking classes at Central Washington State after finishing up high school. I really did not know what I wanted to do in college, so I took some Bio and Biz classes and all the other basic courses, but you know college was great for meeting new people and having a good time. I lived on campus and enjoyed my time.
After a couple years, I travelled for a while. Yep, your classic hippie backpacker, that was me! I hiked through a good part of the upper NW and Canada. Later, I did the Appalachian trail. I spent a lot of time on my own in these days during the 90's. While everyone at home was into the grunge scene, I was listening to Bob Dylan and Bob Marley.
In 1994 I got my first *real* job working in an office selling copiers. It sucked, but I needed to make money. Selling copiers is a lot like used cars I think. You gotta hustle and since I have the gift of gab, I was a natural. I did that for 20 years; I earned my money and socked it away.
I like to think I got out ahead of the curve when it comes to organic gardening, as I started growing a lot of food in the early 2000's. I got a head start on the rest of those doing now, which is kinda neat. I feel like a pioneer!
So, now, Derek Freiman Garden Consulting is all about teaching others how to enjoy nutrient rich vegetables from their own yard. I do mostly training and consulting, but I have to admit, I enjoy getting my hands dirty and I try to make sure I have a few clients each week where I do all the digging!
My blog is on http://derekfreiman.blogspot.com/, if you need assistance, I would love to help you!
