Donald Hiebel

Dr. Donald Hiebel attended Miami University, where he served as a teaching fellow and earned a PhD in clinical psychology. Beyond his doctoral studies, Dr. Donald Hiebel has completed additional professional training in family and couple’s therapy, collaborative counseling, and divorce mediation.

Between 1980 and 2002, Dr. Hiebel served as the proprietor and director of a private child and family mental health care group. He has since operated a solo child and family psychological therapy practice in West Hartford, Connecticut. Concentrating on areas such as diagnosing childhood disorders and counseling families going through divorce, he employs a distinctive evaluative and treatment model that combines several approaches, including analytic, psychoeducative, and behavioral methods.

Actively engaged in the development of his field, Dr. Donald Hiebel has served as an adjunct professor at four universities and spoken at more than 40 conferences. For a decade, he participated in a weekly forensic seminar that covered the interconnections between psychiatry, psychology, and the legal realm. He has also delivered in excess of 150 workshops on subjects such as parental estrangement, reunifying parents and children separated through divorce actions, and the impact of divorce court proceedings on family functioning.

Along with his work in child and family therapy, Dr. Hiebel provides consulting for professionals in fields ranging from engineering to insurance. He uses Goleman’s emotional intelligence model to help professionals improve communication skills, such as clarity of expression and recognition of emotional cues.
