Dr. Johnson hails from an inner-city background and was featured in an August 31, 1995 article appearing in the Raleigh North Carolina News and Observer titled "A Young Man Apart, A World Apart," which describes his experiences within the inner city and graduating from college. As a consummate and sought after speaker, Dr. Johnson shares a narrative in hailing from inner city Durham NC and becoming an accomplished professor, scholar and academic administrator before the age of 40. He was named the 7th President of Tuskegee University on April 28, 2014.
