Established in 2004, Dr. Balwant Singh’s Hospital is one of Guyana’s newest medical facilities. The private hospital endeavors to be among the most technologically advanced of Guyana’s medical institutions.

Placed among the region’s top hospitals, in March 2011 Dr. Vineet Naja successfully completed the first kidney transplant in Guyana’s history. The recipient was 34-year-old Gopinauth Rampersaud, a bank clerk, and both he and donor Kapildeo Rampersaud recovered completely. The department has successfully completed two additional kidney transplants in the six-month period after the initial procedure. In addition to performing groundbreaking transplant surgery, Dr. Naja’s department offers state-of-the-art treatments for genitourinary tract diseases, endoscopic treatments for kidney stones, and a state-of-the-art uro-oncology program. The Urology Department is the only one in Guyana to utilize minimally invasive techniques for a wide range of renal issues. Dr. Balwant Singh’s Hospital is the only hospital in the region to offer hemodialysis, an advanced method of renal replacement.

In addition to the historical kidney transplant, in 2011 the Urology Department collaborated with doctors from the Walter Reed Army Medical Center to provide free kidney screening and follow-up treatments as necessary.

Dr. Balwant Singh’s Hospital is located in Georgetown, the capital of Guyana. The hospital is located alongside other medical facilities in the South Cummingsburg neighborhood. For more information on Dr. Balwant Singh’s Hospital, please visit www.drbalwantsinghshospital.com.
