Superintendent, Utica Community Schools in Sterling Heights, Michigan
Since 2006, Dr. Christine Johns has served as superintendent of Utica Community Schools - Michigan's second largest school district.
Student achievement is among its highest in the district’s history and UCS students perform at levels above state and national averages. All four UCS high schools have been honored as among the best high schools in the nation by Newsweek magazine and the district’s Utica Academy for International Studies (UAIS) was recognized as the state’s most academically challenging school by the Washington Post for the past two years.
In her role as superintendent, Dr. Christine Johns has also led initiatives to promote a college culture through expanded Advanced Placement programs and career education programs. She has also encouraged partnerships between Utica Community Schools and education and research organizations such as the University of Michigan-Flint and the Detroit Zoological Society.
Dr. Johns has also earned recognition from multiple organizations as part of her educational efforts. She received a distinction from eSchool News for her technological savvy, and Leadership Macomb bestowed upon her a People's Choice Award.
