The founder of the Gulf Coast Cardiothoracic Surgery Institute (GCCSI) in Tampa, Florida, Dr. Hartmuth Bittner has directed this minimally invasive cardiothoracic surgical practice for the past five years. Since 2019, Dr. Hartmuth Bittner has concurrently served as an associate professor with the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Dr. Bittner has held certification through the American Board of Thoracic Surgery since 1998. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of numerous professional associations including the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery, the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery, the German Society of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, and the Florida Society of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgeons.

Dr. Hartmuth Bittner’s career as a physician and educator spans more than three decades, during which he has also contributed to multiple published research projects. Among his other accomplishments, he performed the first ever successful heart and lung transplants in Central Florida.
