Drawing upon more than 20 years of medical experience, Dr. Kristen Riley is a neurosurgeon and professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where she oversees the Neurosurgical Pituitary Disorders Clinic and directs research in areas such as adult epilepsy surgery and minimally invasive skull base surgery. She has authored several clinical articles on the latter in conjunction with Dr. Brad Woodworth. Moreover, Dr. Kristen Riley has taught medical courses and labs at UAB since 2008, during which time she has mentored more than two dozen residents.

In addition to her work at UAB, Dr. Kristen Riley is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She also holds a membership with professional organizations like the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Jefferson County Medical Society, and the American Epilepsy Society.

Dr. Riley completed a surgical epilepsy fellowship at Great Ormond Street Hospital and The National Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, England, prior to which she concluded a six-year neurosurgical residency at UAB. She earned her doctor of medicine degree from UAB in 1998 and holds a bachelor's degree in English from the University of North Carolina.
