Dr. Miguel Zabalgoitia

Dr. Miguel Zabalgoitia served as the Director of the Noninvasive Laboratories at the University of Texas HSC in San Antonio and at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Over the course of his career in medicine, Dr. Miguel Zabalgoitia has applied his clinical skills and knowledge in a wide range of leadership capacities, utilizing his extensive background in cardiology, internal medicine, and echocardiography to undertake an array of educational pursuits and research endeavors. Presently, Dr. Miguel Zabalgoitia incorporates his academic and clinical skills in his very busy private practice setting at the Heart Institute of Brownsville, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley.

Regarding his academic appointments, Dr. Miguel Zabalgoitia acted as an Instructor in Medicine at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine from 1986 to 1988. He moved up the academic ladder to a full Professor of Medicine in 2001 at the UTHSCSA, where he departed this position in 2007. From September 2008 to August 2009, Dr. Miguel Zabalgoitia lent his expertise to Southern Illinois University, Springfield, where he held a post as clinical Professor of Medicine. Moreover, Dr. Zabalgoitia spent several years mentoring thesis students from the Egyptian Embassy's Department of Scientific Affairs and the University of Texas.

Aside from his work in the scholastic arena, Dr. Miguel Zabalgoitia has participated as a Principal Investigator in many major studies for leading drug manufacturers such as Merck & Co., Inc. and its subsidiary, DuPont Pharmaceuticals Company. Dr. Zabalgoitia also took part in exploratory investigations for Duke Clinical Research Institute, Gensia Laboratories LTD, Molecular Biosystems, Inc., the National Institutes of Health, and the Department of Defense. Strongly committed to remaining abreast of the most recent advancements in the field of cardiology, Dr. Zabalgoitia maintains membership with the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Echocardiography, and the Mexican Society of Echocardiography.
