After many years of working as a Ph.D. scientist (doctorate in biology from Southern Illinois University, 1992), I switched my career, obtained a masters degree in journalism from Columbia University with a few accolades and awards, and began working in the areas of immigrant rights, global human rights, and labor education. I have researched, written and spoken profusely about all of the above, and used my long social, political and cultural work experience in India to enhance my work in the U.S. I have always combined arts, music, literature, film and drama in my work; my expertise to perform Indian music and translate Bengali literature have contributed greatly. Both myself and my wife Mukti have worked with new immigrants here in America. Now, I have settled down to focus on labor education on one hand and Indian music and literature on the other. Mukti has successfully launched her hands-on Indian cooking class Mukti's Kitchen. We have raised awareness in mainstream America on rights and respect for newcomers like us. We live in Brooklyn, New York.
