After earning both a bachelor of arts in philosophy and a bachelor of science in biology with honors from Stanford University, Dr. Peter Brett matriculated at the Stanford University School of Medicine, where he received a research honors award. Dr. Peter Brett subsequently completed a residency in internal medicine at Stanford University Hospital and a fellowship in medical oncology at the National Institutes of Health’s National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Brett operated a private oncology practice in Sonoma County, California, from 1991 to 2019. While in private practice, he concurrently served eight years as oncology medical director of the Sutter Medical Group of the Redwoods and provided charitable oncology services in Vietnam as a member of Health Volunteers Overseas. He also received an Outstanding Contribution to Sonoma County Medicine award for his leadership role in the North Bay Melanoma Program. Dr. Peter Brett joined the Commonwealth Health Center on the Northern Mariana island of Saipan in June 2019.
