A professor with the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Dr. Richard Burt has a clinical background in medical oncology, hematology, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Over the last 25-30 years Doctor Burt used this knowledge apply stem cell transplantation to autoimmune diseases, especially autoimmune disease within the fields of neurology, rheumatology, and gastroenterology.. Over the years, Dr. Richard Burt has garnered an international reputation as an expert in stem cells and developed stem cell trials in more than a dozen countries that span the globe.

Besides pioneering the field of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for autoimmune diseases , Dr. Burt spearheads regeneration with IPS cells.. He has also authored numerous peer-reviewed articles on the subject of stem cells and has sat on the editorial board for the scholarly journal including, Bone Marrow Transplantation, and Current Stem Cell Research and Therapy, and done peer review for multiple journals including The Lancet and The Journal of the American Medical Association.

Before joining the Northwestern faculty in 1995, Dr. Richard Burt served three years in active duty as a lieutenant commander with the United States Public Health Service. He holds a doctor of medicine cum laude from St. Louis University and a bachelor of science in chemistry with distinction from the University of Missouri.
