A seasoned New York educational administrator, Dr. Shannon Burton has served as the principal of a major Brooklyn middle school. As such, he oversaw the development and implementation of curricula that accommodated a wide range of learning styles. Dr. Shannon Burton was also responsible for not only ensuring building security and student safety, but managing various monitoring activities as well.

Dr. Burton’s professional background includes eight years as a math teacher in public high school settings in Yonkers, New York. At the end of this time, he was promoted to a role within the school as the assistant principal for mathematics and public relations. The director of secondary education in Newark, New Jersey’s University Heights neighborhood, Dr. Shannon Burton’s current activities include teaching business, education, and math classes in postsecondary settings as a visiting professor.

Having received various forms of recognition in his field, including the New York State Citation Award for Teaching Mathematics to At-Risk Students, Dr. Burton has also been featured in The New York Times, including in its 2009 articles “Higher Anxiety about Higher Education” and “Sorting Out Their Goals, and Options,” each of which highlighted his role in helping students navigate the college admissions process.
