Dr Shawna Deeves

Psychiatrist Dr. Shawna Deeves received a BA in neuroscience from the University of Virginia and an MD from the University of Texas (UT) Health Science Center at San Antonio. While an adult psychiatry resident at UT Health Science Center, Dr. Shawna Deeves conducted psychotherapy and medical treatment. She also helped maintain program accreditation and funding as a member of the Residency Education Committee. She completed a child psychiatry fellowship at the UT Health Science Center, during which she performed psychiatric counseling for children with mental disorders and their parents.

Dr. Deeves worked early in her career as a disability analyst for QTC Medical Services, a benefits assessor that contracts with the US Department of Veterans Affairs. In this role, she prepared exhaustive reports on veterans’ medical, psychiatric, military, and professional backgrounds to establish appropriate levels of disability coverage.

Subsequently, Dr. Shawna Deeves practiced for nearly seven years as a private psychiatrist in San Antonio, Texas. She provided 300 adult patients with personalized treatment, including psychological assessments, individual psychotherapy, and medication management. As proprietor of her office, she also administered policy development, finances, and staffing.

In 2013, Dr. Deeves co-founded Dexteritas, Inc., a medical device company where she serves as chief medical officer and brand development officer. She has played a leading role in the development of Dexteritas’ prototype device for improving the compliance rates of patients receiving continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy.
