Student, golf, and music in Athens, GA

Growing up I did not play a lot of sports as other kids did. Do not get me wrong I love sports (my bulldogs especially) but it was because I had physical limitations. I was born with a super rare syndrome called Poland syndrome which means I am missing some ribs on my left side along with my left pec muscle. I played sports up until middle school when contact became more frequent and my parents made me stop. I played golf throughout high school and that is still one of my favorite hobbies to this day, but golf was only during the spring season so I had a lot of time to fill outside of that. I never really knew what to do until one day in ninth grade I was on Instagram and saw a video of someone playing Careless Whisper by George Michael on guitar. I thought that video was so cool and I decided to go pick up my Dad’s guitar and try to learn how to play it. I used different apps and youtube to learn the basics, and I fell in love instantly. I would practice every day and just fell deeper and deeper in love with it. I found playing to be an escape from everything and a way to relax. I have played every single day since. I started a band in high school with some of my friends called Ré Faná (named after our favorite drink from Zaxby’s red Fanta). We played a lot of shows at school and at parties, and that made me get a lot better. I have not joined a band in college yet, but I am looking to. Everyone loves music including myself but to me, it is a way for me to express who I am.
