Dusty Brailsford
Mother, Small Business Owner, and Aviation in Colorado
I'm a Colorado native with what some might call an "extremely varied" background. After graduating from high school, I headed to the Colorado School of Mines where I earned a BS in Engineering Physics with a minor in Geophysical Engineering. From there, I went to the University of Colorado School of Law, earned my Juris Doctor, and passed the Colorado Bar in 2002. I'm also trained as an ASNT Level 1 Thermographer—because why not add infrared inspections to the mix?
I found my love of aviation while learning to fly helicopters. I hold commercial and instrument ratings for rotorcraft and owned and operated Zenobia Helicopters, LLC from 2005-2008. My career took me through some fascinating roles—geophysicist with Texaco, Assistant Director of Admissions at the Colorado School of Mines, General Counsel for a property management firm, and eventually Director of Aviation Programs at Aims Community College, where I led multiple degree programs and flight centers.
In 2011, my husband Sam and I purchased Hangar 1, Inc., a family-owned aircraft maintenance business. In 2016, I transitioned from Aims to focus full-time on Hangar 1 during a period of exceptional growth. As Director of Development and Chief Legal/People/Financial Officer, I transformed our operations from antiquated paper systems to efficient digital workflows, built our HR infrastructure, and established the organizational foundation that continues to support our success.
In 2023, we co-founded ProStar Flight Services, LLC, where I serve as President and CEO. ProStar provides aerial survey operations and creates opportunities for emerging aviators to develop their skills through challenging, real-world flying. I'm passionate about building an aviation community grounded in integrity, excellence, and genuine support for one another.
When I'm not immersed in aviation, I teach Love and Logic parenting courses through Raising Happy Parents, LLC—helping parents raise responsible, respectful kids who can solve their own problems.
I'm a mom and someone who truly loves being part of the aviation community. Next time you're around Greeley-Weld County Airport, be sure to say hi!
