While attending the University of Michigan as an undergraduate, Ed Filer became a Big Ten champion as a varsity tennis player. After securing his bachelor of arts, he matriculated to the University of Wisconsin Law School, where he participated as a moot court competitor and received the Abe Sigman honors award. Ed Filer earned his juris doctor in 1991 and subsequently embarked on a law career with a specific focus on construction and real estate. He has been an Illinois Super Lawyer in the field of construction litigation for the past 7 years.

Since 2018, Ed Filer has practiced as a partner with the Chicago office of Roetzel & Andress. In addition to managing this office, he represents a number of large construction companies as co-head of its construction group. Mr. Filer holds active membership in numerous industry associations, including the Construction Lawyer Society of America, the Society of Illinois Construction Attorneys, and the Chicago Building Congress.
